Another write-up

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

The nice folks at the University of Delaware Education Resource Center featured Springtime as a book of the week, with a great review – check it out here. It even obliquely compares my pictures to Steven Kellogg’s, woot woot! Well, kind of… But whatever!

The Twelve Days of Springtime has been mentioned in a couple of great blogs – you can check them out here and here! Thanks to the lovely people blogging away, yay!

Now available!

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

The Twelve Days of Springtime, written by Deborah Lee Rose, and illustrated by yours truly, is now available for purchase! You can buy it here or here. Or better yet, request one at your local independent bookseller!

Kirkus Reviews says,

The humor’s all in Armstrong-Ellis’s illustrations, which depict a rambunctious, multi-ethnic classroom full of kids and their valiant teacher… Each page turn shows her eyes getting wider and wider behind their horn-rims as her kids take every activity… and turn it into happy chaos. Readers will get an enormous kick out of seeing what they do in each busy spread…

Check it out as you wait for springtime to arrive!

Webpage update

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Wow, I have really done a great job updating my blog, eh? Sheesh. I thought I was going to do better… But here goes; I’ll try again.

Ok, I have FINALLY updated my website to help those who were having some issues with navigation. For all you folks who thought I only listed one book on my books page, well, now hopefully it is more obvious that they are all there. So check it out! Also I have added links to my etsy shop, which is up and running. For springtime I made some bunny ears for my octopi:

octobunny!

In book related news, I actually made my deadline for The Twelve Days of Springtime, woot woot! Well, everything but the jacket. But still. I am now waiting to hear if they actually like them…. I sent them in at the beginning of March and haven’t heard yet. Hmmm. But anyway, here is a little preview:

On the first day of springtime…

Hopefully they will love them and I won’t have to redo any of them!

I recently did a little project with a second grade class from Long Island – they read Prudy’s Problem and Seymour Slug in class and then wrote me letters asking questions ranging from “what inspired you to be an illustrator?” to “what is your favorite color?” Then they drew slug pictures for me. I wrote back answering all their questions (used to be blue, but now I lean more toward greens and oranges…) and sent them some pictures (including the one above) and bookmarks. Now they are all writing stories about slugs! Apparently I have been an inspiration for them – cool!

In a couple of weeks I will be doing a school visit to the second grade classes at the Wilson School in Cumberland, ME. Even though I do not do school visits very often, they have had me come since the year Prudy’s Problem came out and they’ve always been so great to me – always a good time!

So there you have it for now. And I will try to update more frequently, really! Yup, I’ll do that…
